Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja inspected rainwater drainage works at Udayampalayam Raja Canal to prevent waterlogging during monsoons. Officials were directed to prepare estimates for constructing a new culvert bridge on the State Highways Department road to resolve flooding issues permanently.
Coimbatore: Coimborate Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja today (24.06.2026) personally inspected the works required to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater at Raja Canal in Udayampalayam area, falling under Ward No. 12 of the North Zone of Coimbatore Corporation.

During monsoon seasons, rainwater from the Aanaikatti area flows through Pannimadai canal via Vellakkinaru pond into Raja Canal through a ground-level pipe bridge, eventually reaching Singanalur canal before joining the Noyyal River. However, during heavy rains, blockages occur at the Raja Canal pipe bridge, creating waterlogging problems.
To address this issue, the Corporation Commissioner directed concerned officials to prepare proper project estimates and undertake works to construct a new culvert bridge on the State Highways Department road in the area. This is expected to provide a permanent solution to the rainwater drainage problem.
During the inspection, Corporation Health Officer Dr Subash Gandhi, Assistant Commissioner Shanmugam, Assistant Executive Engineer Sathyamurthy, Councillor Ramamurthy, Zonal Health Officer Murugan, Assistant Engineers Gopinath, Ganesan, Jainraj, and several other Corporation officials were present.
