A private school teacher was arrested by the Coimbatore East All Women Police under the POCSO Act for allegedly sending obscene content to students through WhatsApp.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore East All Women Police have arrested a 34-year-old private school teacher under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly sending obscene images and videos to students through WhatsApp.

The accused, identified as Babu from Dindigul was employed at a private school in Coimbatore. According to police, he allegedly shared explicit photographs and videos with some of his students during the two-month summer vacation by sending them to their WhatsApp numbers.

The matter came to light after parents, while checking their children’s mobile phones, reportedly discovered the objectionable content allegedly shared by the teacher. Disturbed by the revelations, parents and relatives gathered at the school premises and confronted the management, leading to tense scenes on the campus.

Police personnel rushed to the spot and initiated preliminary inquiries with the parents of the affected students. Investigators subsequently seized the teacher’s mobile phone for forensic examination. The analysis allegedly revealed evidence confirming that obscene material had been transmitted to students.

Based on the findings of the investigation, the Coimbatore East All Women Police registered a case against Babu under the relevant provisions of the POCSO Act. He was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

Preliminary investigations further indicated that the accused had allegedly targeted students who had attended his classes and tuition sessions during the summer vacation.
