Goondas Act Invoked Against Two Illicit Liquor Offenders in Coimbatore

Coimbatore:

Two persons arrested in connection with an illicit liquor brewing and storage case in Coimbatore district have been detained under the Goondas Act, police officials said.

According to the police, Gopalakrishnan (42) and Sengaliyappan (59) were arrested in a case registered by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing under the Periyanaickenpalayam police limits for allegedly brewing illicit liquor and storing it for sale.

Following their arrest and imprisonment, Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Pavan Kumar Reddy recommended that action be initiated against the accused under the Goondas Act.

Based on the recommendation, Coimbatore District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar issued orders to detain both individuals under the provisions of the Goondas Act applicable to bootleggers.

The accused have subsequently been lodged in prison under the preventive detention law.

The Superintendent of Police warned that strict action would be taken under the Goondas Act against individuals whose activities disturb public peace or pose a threat to public health and safety.
