Heavy Rain Likely in Coimbatore, Nilgiris Today, IMD Issues Alert

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall in Coimbatore and nine other districts on June 9, 2026, following several days of widespread summer showers across western and southern Tamil Nadu.

Summer showers continue to bring rainfall to several parts of Tamil Nadu, with districts including Coimbatore, The Nilgiris, Tiruppur and Erode witnessing wet weather over the past few days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), conditions remain favourable for moderate to heavy rainfall in parts of western Tamil Nadu, particularly during the evening and night hours.

Several areas of Coimbatore city received moderate rainfall on Monday evening, providing relief from the prevailing heat and creating cooler weather conditions across the region.

The IMD has now issued a heavy rain alert for 10 districts on Tuesday (June 9, 2026). The districts likely to receive heavy rainfall include Coimbatore, The Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Dindigul, Theni, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari.

Weather officials have advised residents, farmers and motorists to remain cautious and keep track of official weather updates as rainfall activity is expected to continue in several parts of the State.

Authorities are also monitoring weather conditions closely and have urged the public to take necessary precautions in areas prone to waterlogging and strong winds during thunderstorms.
