IT Employee Petitions for Government Honours for Mullivaikkal, Sterlite Victims

Aravind, an IT employee from Veerakeralam area in Coimbatore, has submitted a petition to the District Collector demanding government honours for those who lost their lives in Mullivaikkal and Sterlite protests, and declaring both days as mourning days.

Coimbatore: An IT employee has submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector requesting government honours for victims of Mullivaikkal and the Sterlite protest, and demanding that those dates be declared as days of mourning.

Aravind, an IT employee from the Veerakeralam area of Coimbatore district, submitted a petition to District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar requesting that government honours be accorded to those who lost their lives on Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day and during the Sterlite protests.

Speaking about this, Aravind stated, "The government should declare both these days as mourning days. Only if they are declared as mourning days will today's youth come to know about them. Current youth are immersed in social media."

Noting that political change does not translate into social change, he said, "Education and awareness must be brought about as social change. Only then will discipline come. When social change occurs, honour killings and sexual violence will reduce."

Aravind mentioned that the current Chief Minister has created social changes such as not giving money for votes and voting without caste considerations, and expressed confidence that he would do much more.
