Man Robbed at Knifepoint in Coimbatore’s Sundarapuram Area; 3 Arrested

Police arrested three persons and remanded them to judicial custody for allegedly threatening a man at knifepoint and robbing him of Rs.500 in Coimbatore’s Sundarapuram area.


Coimbatore: Satheesh (30), a native of Alangudi in Pudukottai district, has been residing at LIC Colony in Sundarapuram, Coimbatore, where he works in a private company.

On Monday, he was walking with his friend near the Amman Temple area in Ganeshapuram when three unidentified persons allegedly intercepted him and demanded money.

When Satheesh refused to hand over cash, the trio allegedly threatened him with a knife and robbed Rs.500 kept in his shirt pocket. On noticing the incident, members of the public attempted to catch the accused, but the trio reportedly escaped from the spot.

Based on a complaint lodged by Satheesh at the Sundarapuram Police Station, police registered a case and launched an investigation.

During the inquiry, the accused were identified as Yugendran (22) from Pudukottai district, Mohamed Ismail (28) from Mettur in Podanur, and Linga Bhoopathi (22) from Bharathi Nagar, Podanur.

Police subsequently arrested all three accused and booked them under Sections 308(4) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The trio was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
