Southern Railway introduces special train service between Chennai and Coimbatore via Tiruppur, Erode, and Salem from May 13 to 31. The Kongu Global Forum welcomes this initiative, noting it will benefit summer travelers and utilize Podanur Junction platforms effectively during peak season.
Coimbatore: The Southern Railway has announced a special train service between Chennai and Coimbatore, two of Tamil Nadu's major cities, during the summer season. The service will operate from May 13 to May 31, providing additional connectivity for travelers during the peak holiday period.
The special summer train service, which will run through Tiruppur, Erode, and Salem routes, has been welcomed by the Kongu Global Forum, a prominent industrial organization in the region.

According to the service details, the Chennai – Podanur train (Train No. 06023) will depart from Chennai at 11:50 PM on Wednesdays and Fridays in May – specifically on the 13th, 15th, 20th, 22nd, 27th, and 29th. The return service, Podanur – Chennai train (Train No. 06024), will depart from Podanur at 1:45 PM on Thursdays and Sundays – May 14th, 17th, 21st, 24th, 28th, and 31st.
"Since it is the summer vacation period, there is a significant increase in passengers traveling between Chennai and Coimbatore. In this environment where there is a demand for special train services, this service announced by Southern Railway will be helpful to many passengers," stated the Kongu Global Forum.
The organization further highlighted that since the trains will stop at both Podanur Junction and Coimbatore Junction, passengers can easily reach the city. "There is public transportation available from the city to other locations, which makes travel easier," the forum added.
The Kongu Global Forum also expressed satisfaction that the platforms at Podanur Junction are being utilized effectively. The detailed schedule and timing of train services have been provided in the accompanying timetable, officials noted.
