Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday morning. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath in the presence of top political leaders, alliance partners, and thousands of supporters.
Chennai: Chennai: A historic moment unfolded at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday morning as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president C. Joseph Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in a grand swearing-in ceremony attended by top political leaders, party cadres, and thousands of supporters.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay at 10 a.m., following TVK’s coalition victory in the Assembly elections. Along with Vijay, nine Ministers were also sworn into the new Cabinet amid loud cheers and celebrations at the packed stadium.
TVK emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly elections with 108 seats, and later secured the support of 120 MLAs with backing from the Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M), and IUML. Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar formally invited Vijay to form the government after he submitted letters of support from alliance parties.
Along with Vijay, nine Ministers from TVK and alliance parties were also sworn in at the grand ceremony attended by senior coalition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi. The Governor has directed the new Chief Minister to prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly on or before May 13.
