Vijay Gets Governor’s Nod to Form Government; Oath at 11 AM Tomorrow?

TVK chief Vijay meets Tamil Nadu Governor to stake claim to form government after the party secured majority support. Sources indicate that the swearing-in ceremony may take place at 11 am tomorrow.

Chennai: In a dramatic political development in Tamil Nadu, TVK chief Vijay has reportedly received Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar’s nod to form the government after successfully securing the required majority support in the Assembly.

Sources in political circles indicated that the swearing-in ceremony could take place at 11 am tomorrow. However, there has been no official confirmation so far from either TVK or the Governor’s office regarding the timing of the oath-taking ceremony.

The development comes after days of intense political negotiations and uncertainty following the fractured Assembly verdict. Vijay, whose party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats, had been seeking support from smaller parties to cross the majority mark of 118 in the 234-member Assembly.

Congress had earlier extended support to TVK, followed by the CPI, CPI(M), VCK, IUML and other smaller parties, helping Vijay reach the crucial majority figure needed to form the government.

On Friday evening, Vijay met Governor Arlekar at Lok Bhavan in Chennai and reportedly submitted letters of support from allied parties to formally stake claim to form the government. This was Vijay’s third meeting with the Governor since the election results were declared.

The Governor had earlier sought proof of majority support before inviting Vijay to form the government, leading to protests by TVK and Congress cadres across Tamil Nadu. The delay had triggered political debate over the government formation process in a hung Assembly situation.

With majority support now reportedly in place, Vijay appears set to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, marking a significant political moment in the State.
