The wild buffalo had been spotted roaming around the Kembanur forest area, which falls under the Coimbatore forest division, for the last six months. The animal occasionally ventured into residential areas adjacent to the forest regions, causing concern among local residents.
The situation turned tragic on December 31 when the wild buffalo attacked an elderly woman who was grazing goats in Attukkal Perumballi area, resulting in her death. Following this fatal incident, forest department officials drove the animal back into the forest areas.
However, the buffalo continued to move around the Attukkal and dhaliyur forest border regions in the subsequent weeks, keeping forest officials on high alert.
Yesterday morning, the wild buffalo entered an areca nut plantation owned by Mohan located on the Thaodamuthur-Madhampatty road. Upon receiving information, forest department personnel rushed to the spot and began monitoring the animal's movements closely.
While under observation, the wild buffalo suddenly entered nearby bushes and vanished without a trace. Despite extensive searches in the surrounding areas, officials have been unable to locate the animal.
Forest department officials are now conducting a thorough search to determine whether the buffalo has returned deep into the forest or has moved to another area. The department is maintaining vigilance in both forest border regions and nearby residential areas to track the animal's whereabouts and ensure public safety.
