Tourists Flock to Kovai Kutralam After Election Break

Kovai Kutralam eco-tourism spot witnessed heavy footfall on Sunday as tourists from Coimbatore and neighbouring districts visited the site after it reopened following election day closure. Despite low water flow and 39°C temperature, families enjoyed bathing and trekking.

Coimbatore: Kovai Kutralam, one of Coimbatore's premier tourist destinations, witnessed a massive influx of visitors on Sunday, marking the first weekend after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23.

The eco-tourism spot, operated under the Forest Department's supervision, had been closed for one day to encourage 100 percent voter turnout during the elections. Following the poll closure restrictions, tourists eagerly returned to the scenic location.

Visitors from Coimbatore city, neighbouring districts, and even other states converged at Kovai Kutralam to enjoy bathing in the waterfalls and exploring the natural surroundings. The site has implemented a complete ban on plastic bottles and polythene covers, with Forest Department officials conducting thorough checks of tourists' belongings at entry points to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Despite Coimbatore experiencing scorching temperatures of approximately 39 degrees Celsius, families found respite in the cool waters of Kovai Kutralam. The refreshing experience provided much-needed relief from the intense heat wave gripping the region.

Although water flow at the falls was relatively low, tourists expressed satisfaction with their visit. Many appreciated the opportunity to bathe in the natural pools and undertake trekking expeditions into the forest areas. "Even with reduced water levels, the experience of being surrounded by nature and the cool atmosphere made our trip worthwhile," said several visitors.

The Forest Department maintained strict vigilance throughout the day, ensuring visitor safety while protecting the ecological balance of the area. The sustained popularity of Kovai Kutralam demonstrates its importance as a local recreational destination, especially during summer months when residents seek natural cooling alternatives.
