Coimbatore South DMK candidate Senthil Balaji in a meeting with industrialists. assured that fixed charges and demand charges in electricity tariffs will be reduced after election victory.
Coimbatore: DMK candidates contesting in Coimbatore district participated in an interactive session with industrialists organized by the Tamil Nadu All Entrepreneurs Federation at a private apartment complex near Lakshmi Mills on Avinashi Road.
Addressing the gathering, Jayapal, State General Secretary of the Federation, said, "We are prepared to pay electricity charges. However, our demand is to reduce 12 types of additional charges including fixed charges and demand charges by 50%. Compared to 10 competing states, electricity tariffs are highest in Tamil Nadu. Moreover, other states provide various concessions."

"Tamil Nadu industrialists don't need freebies. Our only demand is to reduce the increased electricity tariffs. An assurance was given that peak hour charges would not be collected until metering equipment is installed. This should be made permanent. Similarly, industrialists who produce renewable energy through solar and wind power and supply it to manufacturing units should not be charged. In Tamil Nadu, charges should be collected only from private corporate companies that produce electricity in these sectors and sell it commercially. Network charges imposed on the Roof Top Solar scheme should be completely abolished," he emphasized.
"The number of manufacturing entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu is continuously declining. This is not good for industrial growth. Whenever implementing any industrial scheme in Tamil Nadu, it would be excellent if micro and small industrialists are invited and their opinions are heard before announcing schemes. Steps should also be taken to fulfill the demands already put forward by the Apartment Residents Welfare Association," Jayapal stated.

Senthil Balaji, DMK candidate for Coimbatore South constituency, responded, "All the demands put forward regarding the electricity sector and industrial development will be swiftly addressed through government orders after the election victory. The demands put forward by the Apartment Residents Welfare Association will also be fulfilled."
Senthamizh Selvan, DMK candidate for Coimbatore North, along with party administrators and executives from various industrial organizations and Apartment Residents Welfare Associations participated in the event.
