Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Announces Extended Holiday for Students Ahead of Elections

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has declared an extended holiday for students to facilitate voting in the upcoming elections. The holiday on April 24, combined with the weekend, allows hostel students to travel to their hometowns and cast their votes without difficulty.

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has announced an extended holiday for students to ensure their participation in the upcoming elections and encourage voting among first-time voters.

In a move to motivate college students and first-time voters, the Coimbatore-based Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has directed its 18 constituent colleges and 28 affiliated colleges to declare a holiday on April 24, the day following the polling day.

The university has instructed the colleges to confirm a continuous holiday covering the election day (Friday), Saturday, and Sunday. This arrangement creates an extended weekend break for students.

This initiative has been taken to enable students, particularly those residing in hostels, to travel to their distant hometowns without any difficulty and cast their votes. The measure is specifically designed to encourage student participation in the electoral process.

The university has indicated that the holiday on April 24 can be compensated by utilizing an alternative working day. The directive has been issued with strict instructions for mandatory implementation.

The university administration has warned college principals that failure to implement this order will result in action against the concerned college management. This ensures compliance across all constituent and affiliated institutions of TNAU.

The decision reflects the university's commitment to civic responsibility and democratic participation, ensuring that students can exercise their fundamental right to vote without academic constraints or travel difficulties.
