Coimbatore Records Highest Temperature Since May 2024 at 38.8°C

Coimbatore registered 38.8°C today, marking the highest temperature since May 7, 2024. Peak summer conditions persist with temperatures expected to remain between 38–39°C over the coming days. No significant rainfall is forecast for the next week across the city.

Coimbatore: The city recorded a maximum temperature of 38.8°C today, marking the highest reading since May 7, 2024. This sharp rise in temperature signals the arrival of peak summer conditions across Coimbatore and surrounding areas.

Meteorological officials attribute the soaring temperatures to a suppressive atmospheric environment that has settled over the region. With these conditions in place, temperatures are expected to hover consistently between 38°C and 39°C over the next several days, bringing intense heat to residents.

On the rainfall front, the anticipated isolated showers failed to materialize as weak low-level wind discontinuity conditions prevented moisture buildup. Weather models show no significant rainfall activity expected over the next week, leaving the city under prolonged dry and hot weather.

However, there is some respite on the horizon. Meteorological models indicate a phase movement of the Madden–Julian Oscillation by late April or early May, which could potentially trigger some rainfall activity. Until then, residents are advised to brace for mostly hot and dry weather conditions that are expected to persist across the city and its outskirts.

Authorities have urged citizens to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. The Regional Meteorological Centre continues to monitor atmospheric conditions and will issue updates as weather patterns evolve.
