Two Arrested for Fatal Assault on Liquor Shop Employee in Variety Hall

Police arrested two men for allegedly killing a 60-year-old liquor shop employee following a drunken altercation in Variety Hall area. The victim, Sundararaj from Pudukkottai district, died on the spot after being assaulted by the accused who were customers at the shop on Sunday afternoon.


Coimbatore: Police have arrested two men for allegedly beating a liquor shop employee to death following a dispute at a liquor outlet in the Variety Hall area of Coimbatore.

The deceased has been identified as Sundararaj (60), a native of Pudukkottai district, who was working as an employee at a liquor shop in the Variety Hall locality. The accused are Prabu (27), a resident of Edaiyar Street who runs a vegetable shop in the local market, and his friend Manoj (28), who works at a private company.

According to police sources, Prabu and Manoj visited the liquor shop in Variety Hall area on Sunday. The duo consumed alcohol at the establishment around 3 PM in the afternoon. During their time at the shop, an argument broke out between them and Sundararaj, who was working there as an employee.

The situation quickly escalated as both men allegedly assaulted Sundararaj. They reportedly pushed him against the wall and struck him in the chest area. The assault proved fatal, and Sundararaj died on the spot due to the injuries sustained in the attack.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Variety Hall police rushed to the scene and recovered the body. The body was subsequently sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Following investigation, police arrested both Prabu and Manoj in connection with the killing.

The incident has raised concerns about public safety and alcohol-related violence in commercial areas of the city. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the fatal assault. Further details are awaited as the case proceeds.
