A one-day seminar on transforming Coimbatore into a world-class city was held at Sri Ramakrishna Arts and Science College, focusing on cleanliness, sustainability and civic participation.

A one-day seminar titled “Let’s Transform Coimbatore into a World-Class City” was held on Monday at Sri Ramakrishna Arts and Science College, Nava India, Coimbatore. The event was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college in association with the Olirum Kovai voluntary organisation.
The seminar was presided over by Sundar Ramakrishnan, Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust. College Principal and Secretary P. L. Sivakumar delivered the keynote address, outlining the objectives of the seminar.
Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee of Siruthuli, participated as the chief guest and released a compendium of 50 research papers, which was received by Sundar Ramakrishnan.
Speaking on the occasion, Vanitha Mohan emphasised the importance of environmental protection and cleanliness in urban spaces. She noted that lack of sanitation in growing cities like Coimbatore is contributing to rising health concerns and stressed the need for a cleaner and healthier lifestyle. She also highlighted the role of students and citizens in maintaining cleanliness and encouraged youth to actively engage with voluntary organisations in environmental initiatives.
She added that such seminars act as a starting point for larger transformation and called for collective efforts to make Coimbatore a model city.
The event also featured addresses by Kailash Kumar, Managing Trustee of UID Educational Trust and Founder of Olirum Kovai, and Kalidas, member of the Tamil Nadu State Wildlife Board and environmental activist.
As part of the seminar, over 50 research papers were received from researchers, academicians, social workers and NGO representatives across Tamil Nadu. Out of these, 10 papers were shortlisted and presented before an expert panel, with the top three entries receiving cash awards.
At the valedictory session, A. M. Samsu Ali, Founder and Managing Director of The Chennai Mobiles, distributed prizes to the winners. The first prize of ₹15,000 was awarded to P. Narasimman, Assistant Professor from Sri Ramakrishna Arts and Science College, the second prize of ₹10,000 went to V. Shanmugapriya from Avinashilingam Institute, and the third prize of ₹5,000 was shared by students Mohana and Sri Lakshmi from Sri Ramakrishna Women’s Arts and Science College.
More than 200 participants from across Tamil Nadu attended the seminar. The event was coordinated by IQAC coordinators Parveen Banu and Krishnapriya along with members of the Olirum Kovai organisation.
