Annamalai Condemns Ban on Peelamedu Patteeswarar Temple Chariot Festival

BJP leader Annamalai has condemned the Public Works Department's refusal to issue a no-objection certificate for the centuries-old Panguni Uthiram chariot festival at Peelamedu Patteeswarar Temple in Coimbatore, scheduled for March 29. He demanded immediate permission for the religious event.

Coimbatore: BJP former state president Annamalai has strongly condemned the reported ban on the Panguni Uthiram chariot festival at the ancient Patteeswarar Temple in Peelamedu, Coimbatore.

In a statement issued on March 24, Annamalai expressed his displeasure over the Public Works Department official's refusal to grant a no-objection certificate for the temple's traditional chariot festival, effectively imposing a ban on the centuries-old religious event.

The Patteeswarar Temple in Peelamedu is over a thousand years old, and the Panguni Uthiram chariot festival has been a spiritual tradition celebrated for several centuries. This year's chariot festival was scheduled to take place on March 29 to mark the auspicious occasion of Panguni Uthiram.

Annamalai stated that the DMK government's attempt to obstruct the centuries-old Panguni Uthiram chariot festival, hurting the sentiments of devotees even as their tenure nears its end, is completely unacceptable. He emphasized that such actions demonstrate insensitivity towards religious traditions and devotees' feelings.

The BJP leader strongly urged the DMK government to immediately grant all necessary permissions to conduct the chariot procession without any hindrance. He called for the administration to respect the longstanding religious customs and ensure that devotees can participate in their traditional festival without obstacles.

The controversy has sparked concerns among devotees and temple authorities who have been preparing for the annual festival, which draws large crowds of devotees from across the region.
