Union MoS Muralidhar Mohol reviews Coimbatore Airport expansion works

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol held discussions with airport officials at Coimbatore Airport on the progress of the 627-acre expansion project and assured necessary support for its execution.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol reviewed the progress of the Coimbatore Airport expansion project during a meeting with airport officials at the airport premises.

Keeping in view the future growth of Coimbatore Airport, an expansion plan covering 627 acres was first announced in 2010 during the DMK regime. After the DMK returned to power a decade later, funds amounting to ₹2,500 crore were allocated for land acquisition, and the entire extent of land was handed over unconditionally to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

At present, preliminary works related to environmental development are under way as part of the first phase. Designs for a large new terminal building for arrivals and departures have been prepared and sent to the AAI headquarters in Delhi for approval.

In this backdrop, Muralidhar Mohol arrived in Coimbatore in the early hours of Sunday, February 8. After attending party-related programmes, he returned to the city in the evening. He was accorded a formal reception at the airport.
