Coimbatore: A wild elephant, locally known as 'Baahubali', created a stir when it was spotted walking on village roads near Lingapuram in the Sirumugai area. The incident, which occurred around 7 PM, caused panic among motorists and local residents.

The elephant, which has been roaming in the Mettupalayam and Sirumugai forest range areas for the past few years, has recently shifted its movement to villages like Lingapuram, Kandavayal, and Mokkai Medu in the Sirumugai forest range. Previously, it was frequently seen in villages such as Kurumbanur, Nellithurai, and Thasampalaiyam in the Mettupalayam forest range.

As 'Baahubali' walked along the Sirumugai-Lingapuram road near Lingapuram village, alarmed motorists turned their vehicles around and fled the scene. The elephant's presence on the main road immediately prompted locals to alert the Sirumugai Forest Department.

Forest officials quickly arrived at the location. Working together with the residents of Lingapuram, they used flashlights to guide the elephant back into the nearby forest area. During the operation, vehicular traffic on the road was temporarily halted as the elephant wandered in the middle of the road.

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of human-elephant conflict in the region, as wild elephants continue to venture into human settlements, causing concern for both wildlife officials and local residents.
