Husband Arrested for Assaulting Wife in Family Dispute Near Mettupalayam

A welder named Vijayakanth was arrested on October 8 for assaulting his wife Mayilathaal in SM Nagar, Mettupalayam. The incident occurred just a day after he was released on bail for a similar offense.


Coimbatore: In a disturbing case of domestic violence, a man was arrested for assaulting his wife near Mettupalayam, barely a day after being released on bail for a similar offense.

The accused, identified as Vijayakanth, a welder by profession, resides in SM Nagar area of Mettupalayam. He was taken into custody on October 8 following a complaint filed by his wife, Mayilathaal.

According to police reports, Vijayakanth had been previously arrested and imprisoned for a month on charges of assaulting his wife due to family disputes. He was released on bail on October 7. However, shortly after his release, he engaged in another altercation with Mayilathaal, which escalated to physical violence.

The injured Mayilathaal sought medical treatment following the assault. After receiving care, she approached the local police station and filed a formal complaint against her husband. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police arrested Vijayakanth on October 8.

This incident highlights the recurring nature of domestic violence and the challenges faced by law enforcement in protecting victims even after initial interventions. The case has raised concerns about the effectiveness of current measures to prevent repeat offenses in domestic abuse situations.

Local authorities are urging anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help and report such incidents promptly. They have also emphasized the need for community support and vigilance to prevent such recurring cases of abuse.
