Salem Railway Division Collects Rs 1.67 Crore Fine for Ticketless Travel in September

Salem Railway Division collected Rs 1.67 crore in fines during September for ticketless travel and other violations across stations including Salem, Erode, and Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: The Salem Railway Division has collected a total fine of Rs 1.67 crore in September for various offenses, including ticketless travel, within its jurisdiction.

According to a press release issued by the Salem Railway Division on October 3, railway inspection officials have been imposing fines on passengers traveling without tickets, traveling irregularly, and transporting unregistered goods on trains. These checks were conducted at various stations under the Salem Railway Division, including Salem, Erode, and Coimbatore.

In September alone, 13,553 passengers were caught traveling without tickets and were fined a total of Rs 1,01,87,158. Additionally, 14,590 individuals were penalized for irregular travel, resulting in a collection of Rs 64,81,870 in fines.

The division also cracked down on unregistered cargo transport, with 58 people fined Rs 44,026 for carrying goods without proper registration on trains. The total fine collected for all offenses in September amounted to Rs 1,67,13,054.

The Salem Railway Division continues to conduct regular checks to ensure compliance with ticketing and travel regulations, aiming to maintain order and generate revenue through proper channels.
