Grama Sabha Meetings Demand Compensation for Livestock Loss Due to Dog Attacks

Grama Sabha meetings in Tiruppur district passed resolutions urging government compensation for farmers who lose livestock to dog attacks. The issue has caused significant financial losses to farmers.

Coimbatore: Grama Sabha meetings held on Wednesday in several panchayats across Uthukuli, Kangayam, Vellakovil, Mulanur, and Dharapuram blocks of Tiruppur district passed resolutions urging the government to provide compensation to farmers who lose livestock to attacks by wandering dogs.

Farmers at these meetings called for immediate action from village panchayats to address the issue, which has caused significant financial losses. They also urged the police department to register cases when livestock and calves are killed in such attacks.

Participants highlighted the severe financial strain farmers face due to the loss of livestock, which can be valued in lakhs of rupees. They pointed out that despite previous representations made to district and police authorities, the problem persists.

In some panchayats, the meetings took a stern stance against irresponsible pet ownership. Dog owners were warned of strict action if they failed to comply with the prescribed norms for raising their pets.

The resolutions passed in these Grama Sabha meetings reflect the growing concern among rural communities about the impact of stray dog attacks on their livelihoods. The farmers hope that these resolutions will prompt swift action from the government to address their grievances and provide much-needed financial support.
