Pollachi Municipality Offers Incentives for Timely Tax Payment

Pollachi Municipality Commissioner Ganesan announces 5 percent incentive for property tax payers in October. The move aims to boost revenue collection and clear Rs 28.84 crore tax arrears.

Coimbatore: The Pollachi Municipality has announced an incentive scheme to encourage timely tax payments from its residents. Municipal Commissioner Ganesan revealed that taxpayers who clear their dues within this month will receive a 5% incentive on their payment amount.

The municipality is due to receive an annual revenue of Rs 33.77 crore from various sources including property tax, vacant land tax, water charges, professional tax, garbage service charges, and underground sewage fees. However, over the past two years, the municipality has accumulated tax arrears amounting to Rs 28 crore 84 lakh 42 thousand.

To address this issue, the municipal administration has intensified its tax collection efforts. Commissioner Ganesan stated, "In the past month alone, we have collected Rs 4 crore 50 lakh. On October 1st, we collected Rs 40 lakh in a single day."

The incentive scheme applies to property tax payments for the second half of the 2024-25 financial year. Taxpayers can avail a 5% incentive on the demand amount, with a maximum cap of Rs 5,000 per tax assessment. This offer will be valid until October 31st.

"We encourage the public to take advantage of this opportunity and clear their tax dues," Commissioner Ganesan added. The municipality hopes that this initiative will not only boost revenue collection but also promote a culture of timely tax payment among residents.

The Pollachi Municipality's move comes as part of broader efforts to improve its financial health and ensure better service delivery to its citizens. By incentivizing prompt tax payments, the local body aims to reduce its outstanding arrears and increase its capacity to undertake development projects in the town.
