Female Teacher Arrested for Sexual Assault on Minor Girl in Coimbatore

A 32-year-old private school teacher in Coimbatore district was arrested on Sunday for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl student. The incident occurred early Saturday morning in a deserted area.

Coimbatore: On Sunday, the police arrested a 32-year-old female teacher from a private school in Coimbatore district on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl. The accused, identified as S. Sowndarya, a resident of Udayampalayam in Coimbatore, had been working at a private school near Annur for the past six months.

The incident came to light when the Annur police received a complaint from the victim's mother on Saturday. According to the police investigation, Sowndarya had asked the 13-year-old girl to meet her at a deserted location in the early hours of Saturday, where she allegedly sexually assaulted the minor. The girl had left her house while her parents were asleep.

Following the complaint, the case was transferred to the All Women Police Station in Mettupalayam. The police registered a case against Sowndarya under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. She was subsequently arrested on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody.

This shocking incident has raised concerns about the safety of students in educational institutions and the need for stricter background checks on teaching staff. The local authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and take necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
