Minister Muthuswamy Pays Tribute to Late Padma Shri Awardee Pappammal on Behalf of Tamil Nadu Government

Tamil Nadu Minister Muthuswamy paid floral tributes to late Padma Shri awardee Pappammal in Thekampatti, Coimbatore. The DMK senior member's demise is a significant loss to the party, the minister stated.


Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Minister Muthuswamy paid respects to the late Padma Shri awardee Pappammal on behalf of the state government. The minister laid a floral wreath at Pappammal's residence in Thekampatti near Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district, where her body was kept for public homage.



Pappammal, a senior member of the DMK party and a Padma Shri awardee, passed away due to ill health. Minister Muthuswamy visited her residence to pay his last respects and conveyed deep condolences on behalf of the Chief Minister and other cabinet ministers. He also consoled the bereaved family members.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Minister Muthuswamy reminisced about Pappammal's contributions to the DMK party since 1951. He highlighted her participation in various protests, particularly her significant role in the anti-Hindi imposition agitation.

The minister emphasized that Pappammal's demise is a great loss to the DMK party. He assured that the party would continue to carry forward the work she had initiated in the region. "We will continue the DMK's activities in this area, following the path laid out by Pappammal," the minister stated.

Pappammal's legacy as a dedicated DMK member and her recognition with the Padma Shri award underline her significant contributions to society and politics in Tamil Nadu. Her passing marks the end of an era for local DMK supporters and the community she served for decades.
