AIADMK Councillor Attacked by DMK Members in Mettupalayam, Rushed to Coimbatore for Treatment

An AIADMK councillor was severely injured in an attack by DMK members in Mettupalayam following a municipal council meeting. The incident occurred after a suspension order, leading to tensions in the area.

Coimbatore: Tensions flared in Mettupalayam on Wednesday following an attack on an AIADMK councillor by DMK members, resulting in the injured councillor being rushed to Coimbatore for advanced medical treatment.

The incident unfolded after a chaotic municipal council meeting where an AIADMK councillor threw a water tumbler, causing a disruption. In response, Municipal Chairperson Mehreeba Parvin announced the suspension of nine AIADMK councillors from the next two council meetings as a disciplinary measure.

Protesting this decision, the nine AIADMK councillors staged a sit-in at the council hall. After several rounds of negotiations led by the Municipal Commissioner and Mettupalayam police, an agreement was reached around 8 PM, and the councillors ended their protest.

However, as the AIADMK councillors were leaving the premises, they were allegedly attacked by some DMK functionaries who had been waiting outside the municipal office.

In this attack, AIADMK councillor Guru Prasad suffered severe injuries to his neck and abdomen.

Guru Prasad was immediately taken to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital for initial treatment. AIADMK's Mettupalayam MLA and other party officials gathered at the hospital premises. While the MLA was consoling the injured councillor, Guru Prasad's condition suddenly worsened.

Considering the severity of his injuries, doctors decided to transfer him to Coimbatore Government Hospital for advanced treatment. The incident has created a tense atmosphere in Mettupalayam, with heightened political tensions between the AIADMK and DMK cadres.
