TNAU Forecasts Normal Rainfall for Northeast Monsoon 2024 Across Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University predicts normal rainfall for all districts during the Northeast monsoon season (October to December) 2024, based on advanced climate analysis techniques.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has released its district-level seasonal rainfall forecast for the Northeast monsoon 2024, predicting normal rainfall across all districts in Tamil Nadu. This forecast comes as a relief to farmers and water management authorities in the state.

The Agro Climate Research Centre, under the Directorate of Crop Management at TNAU, Coimbatore, developed this forecast using advanced climate analysis techniques. The prediction is based on the July-August Southern Oscillation Index and Sea Surface Temperature values of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Researchers utilized the Australian Rainman International V.4.3 software to process and analyze the data. The forecast is presented at a 60% probability level, indicating a high degree of confidence in the prediction.

According to the forecast, all districts in Tamil Nadu are expected to receive normal rainfall, which is defined as rainfall within ±10 percent deviation from the long-term average. This prediction covers the Northeast monsoon season from October to December 2024.

The normal rainfall forecast is crucial for agricultural planning, water resource management, and overall economic activities in the state. It allows farmers to make informed decisions about crop selection and irrigation strategies, while also helping government agencies prepare for water distribution and storage.

TNAU's seasonal rainfall forecast serves as a valuable tool for various stakeholders in Tamil Nadu, including agriculturists, water management authorities, and policymakers. As climate patterns continue to evolve, such forecasts play an increasingly important role in mitigating the impacts of weather variations on the state's agriculture and economy.
