Elephant bones discovered during excavation near Karadimadai, Coimbatore; Forest Department shocked

Forest officials were stunned to find elephant bones during an excavation near Karadimadai, Coimbatore. The bones are believed to be from an elephant that died in a fight with another elephant in December 2014.

Coimbatore: The Forest Department received information about soil excavation in a patta forest land near Perumaal Kovil area in the first block of Bolampatti, under the Karadimadai range of Coimbatore Forest Division.

On September 22, when officials visited the site based on this information, they discovered an elephant skeleton buried in the excavated soil.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the bones belonged to a 25-year-old male elephant that had died in December 2014 during a fight between two wild elephants. The Forest Department stated that after conducting a post-mortem examination, the elephant was buried at the same location. The recent excavation at the site led to the discovery of the elephant's skeletal remains.

The Forest Department officials explained that during the post-mortem examination in 2014, they had collected the elephant's tusks. Based on this information, they confirmed that the recently discovered skeletal remains belong to the same elephant. It's worth noting that this patta land is located about one kilometer away from the forest area.
