Coimbatore: Mayor Ranganaayaki inaugurated the construction of a new stormwater drain in Ward 26 of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation's North Zone on Sunday, September 24. The project, which falls under the Namakku Naame Thittam (We for Ourselves Scheme), is being fully funded by GRG Educational Institutions through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The new stormwater drain will be constructed in the Peelamedu area, specifically in Balaguru Garden. The project, estimated to cost Rs. 22.50 lakhs, will cover a distance of 210 meters. This initiative aims to improve the drainage system in the area and mitigate potential flooding issues during heavy rainfall.

During the inauguration, Mayor Ranganaayaki was accompanied by several officials, including North Zone Chairman V. Kathirvel, Assistant Commissioner Sridevi, Ward Councilor Chitra Velliangiri, Assistant Engineer Ezhil, Zonal Health Officer Rajendran, Assistant Engineer Thirumoorthy, and Health Inspector Vijayakumar. Representatives from GRG Educational Institutions and other municipal officials were also present at the event.

The Namakku Naame Thittam, under which this project is being implemented, encourages public participation and corporate involvement in urban development projects. By partnering with educational institutions like GRG, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation is leveraging CSR funds to address critical infrastructure needs in the city.

This stormwater drain project is expected to significantly benefit the residents of Peelamedu and Balaguru Garden areas, providing better flood management and improving the overall quality of life in the neighborhood. The initiative also highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing urban infrastructure challenges.
