Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Administration has announced a WhatsApp number for the public to report individuals posing as journalists and engaging in fraudulent activities. This initiative comes in response to numerous complaints about fake journalists blackmailing government officials and cheating the public.

District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, in a recent press release, stated that some individuals in Coimbatore district have been misusing the title of journalists to intimidate government officials and publish defamatory news about them. These imposters also claim to have connections with higher officials and collect money from the public, promising to fulfill their requests.

The District Administration has been receiving many complaints regarding such activities. There have also been reports of these fake journalists threatening government employees and interfering in police station matters under the guise of mediation.

It has come to light that some individuals are using fake identity cards claiming to be journalists in front of the District Collector's office and other government offices, deceiving the public. The police have been instructed to monitor such individuals, and action will be taken against those identified.

Collector Pati has urged government officials to immediately report any instances of journalists trying to intimidate them. Members of the public who have been affected by individuals posing as journalists and engaging in fraudulent activities are requested to send WhatsApp messages with proper evidence to the number 94980-42423. The administration assures that appropriate action will be taken against such imposters based on the complaints received.

This move by the Coimbatore District Administration aims to curb the menace of fake journalists and protect both government officials and the general public from their fraudulent activities.
