DVAC Files Corruption Case Against AIADMK MLA SP Velumani for Tender Irregularities

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has registered a corruption case against  AIADMK MLA SP Velumani and 10 others for alleged tender irregularities in Chennai Corporation's stormwater drain project in 2018.


Coimbatore: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has registered a corruption case against former AIADMK minister SP Velumani and 10 others for alleged tender irregularities during his tenure as the Minister for Municipal Administration.

The case was filed on September 17 based on a complaint by Arappor Iyakkam, an anti-corruption movement, accusing SP Velumani of involvement in malpractices during his time as a minister. The corruption case has been registered against SP Velumani and 10 engineers from the Chennai Corporation.

According to the complaint, SP Velumani allegedly committed irregularities worth Rs 26.61 crore in the allocation of tenders for stormwater drain works in Chennai Corporation in 2018. Arappor Iyakkam had accused the former minister of corruption in the tender process for these projects.

The DVAC's action comes in response to the allegations made by Arappor Iyakkam. The case has been registered against SP Velumani and the 10 engineers for their alleged involvement in the Rs 26.61 crore corruption scandal related to the stormwater drain project tenders.

This development marks a significant step in the investigation of corruption allegations against the former AIADMK minister. The case is expected to shed light on the alleged irregularities in the tender process for important infrastructure projects in Chennai during SP Velumani's tenure as the Minister for Municipal Administration.
