Onam Celebration at AJK College in Coimbatore: Mahabali Arrives by Helicopter

AJK College in Coimbatore celebrated Onam with traditional fervor. The highlight was Mahabali's arrival by helicopter, greeted enthusiastically by students in traditional attire.



Coimbatore: The AJK College in Navakkarai, Coimbatore district, celebrated Onam festival with great pomp and show today, a day before the actual Onam festival. The celebration was presided over by the college chairman, Professor Dr. Ajith Kumar Lal Mohan. Students participated in the festivities dressed in traditional attire, adding to the cultural ambiance of the event.

Female students created an eye-catching Athapoo (floral carpet) inside the administrative building using various flowers. The college campus came alive with music blaring from speakers mounted on heavy vehicles, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of Chenda Melam and other traditional musical instruments. Students danced enthusiastically to the lively tunes, creating a festive atmosphere.



Around the Athapoo, female students performed the traditional Kerala dance form, Mohiniattam, in their traditional outfits. This was followed by a demonstration of Kalari, the martial art form, by both male and female students. The audience was mesmerized by these displays of traditional dance and martial arts.



As part of the celebrations, an Onam Sadya (traditional feast) was served to all participants, allowing them to savor the authentic flavors of Kerala cuisine.



The highlight of the celebration was the arrival of Mahabali, the mythical king associated with Onam. A helicopter circled the sky before landing on the college grounds, much to the amazement of all present. As Mahabali stepped out of the helicopter, he was greeted with tremendous enthusiasm by the students and faculty.



This unique and grand celebration of Onam at AJK College not only showcased the rich cultural heritage of Kerala but also provided a memorable experience for all the students and staff involved.
