Chief Minister's Cup Sports Competitions Kick Off in Coimbatore

The Chief Minister's Cup Sports Competitions commenced at the Coimbatore Corporation Basketball Court near Nehru Stadium. The event, organized by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, aims to promote sports among students and government employees.



Coimbatore: The Chief Minister's Cup Sports Competitions began at the Coimbatore Corporation Basketball Court near Nehru Stadium, marking the start of a statewide sports initiative organized by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority.



District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati inaugurated the event yesterday, which focuses on school students' participation.



The inauguration ceremony was attended by Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabhakaran, Coimbatore Member of Parliament Ganapathi Rajkumar, and Deputy Mayor Vetri Selvan.



In Coimbatore district, a total of 39,738 participants have registered online for the competitions. This includes 1,449 government employees, 16,809 college students, 18,679 school students, 2,167 from the general category, and 654 differently-abled men.

The competitions in Coimbatore district are being held across nine venues: Nehru Stadium, Corporation Ground, Sri Krishna College, Kumaraguru College of Technology, Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, Karpagam University, Bharathiar University, Thiagarajar Ramasamy Memorial School, and Ramakrishna Vidyalaya School.

Teams selected at the district level will advance to the state-level competitions. In individual sports events, first-place winners will proceed to the state-level competitions. At the state level, cash prizes will be awarded: Rs. 1,00,000 for first place, Rs. 75,000 for second place, and Rs. 50,000 for third place. The total prize money for the event is reported to be Rs. 37 crores.

The Chief Minister's Cup Sports Competitions aim to encourage sports participation and identify talent across Tamil Nadu, providing a platform for athletes to showcase their skills and compete at higher levels.
