Tamil Nadu Primary School Teachers' Joint Action Committee Stages Protest in Coimbatore

Tamil Nadu Primary School Teachers' Joint Action Committee held a one-day token strike in Coimbatore, demanding the fulfillment of 31-point charter of demands, including the reversal of the new pension scheme.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Primary School Teachers' Joint Action Committee (TNJAC) staged a protest at the District Primary Education Office complex near Town Hall in Coimbatore on Wednesday. Over 60 teachers participated in the demonstration, highlighting their 31-point charter of demands.

The protest was part of a statewide one-day token strike organized by TNJAC. Teachers gathered to voice their concerns and press for immediate action on their long-standing demands.

Veerasamy, the district coordinator of TNJAC, addressed the media during the protest. He emphasized several key demands, including the immediate scrapping of the new pension scheme and reinstatement of the old pension scheme. The teachers also called for the revocation of Government Order 243, which they claim affects the promotion opportunities for female teachers.

Other demands included the restoration of surrendered leave salary, which has been suspended, and the cancellation of Government Order 149 pertaining to the teachers' competitive examination.

Veerasamy accused the DMK government of failing to fulfill its election promises. He reminded that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, while in opposition, had promised to implement the old pension scheme. However, the teachers allege that this promise remains unfulfilled after the DMK came to power.

The TNJAC has urged the government to address their 31-point charter of demands promptly. The teachers' association warned of intensified protests if their grievances are not addressed in the near future.
