Massive Clean-up Drive at Perur Padithurai on Aadi 18

Volunteers and students conducted a clean-up drive at Perur Padithurai on August 3, 2024, coinciding with Aadi 18. They collected plastic waste and distributed food offerings to the needy.

Coimbatore: On August 3, 2024, volunteers and college students came together for a massive clean-up drive at Perur Padithurai, a popular spot along the Noyyal River, on the occasion of Aadi 18. This day holds significance as people gather to offer prayers and food to their ancestors and departed children on riverbanks.

Thousands of people congregated at Perur Padithurai, resulting in a substantial accumulation of plastic waste. In response, members of the Coimbatore Lakes Protection Committee, along with college students, engaged in removing plastic waste and collecting food offerings.

The volunteers collected approximately 2,000 kilograms of food offerings, including apples, grapes, guavas, bananas, coconuts, sweets, snacks, and clothes. These items were sorted and distributed to the poor and hungry with the assistance of the No Food Waste Team.

The civic-minded initiative saw active participation from various groups, including the Perur Municipality staff, Noyyal Padithurai Protection Committee, Noyyal River Foundation, and students from Sri Krishna Adhithya College of Arts and Science, PSG College of Pharmacology, and Hindustan College of Arts and Science.

This collaborative effort not only helped clean up the environment but also ensured that the food offerings reached those in need, embodying the spirit of community service on this auspicious day.
