Dravidian Model Deceiving Tamil Nadu Farmers - MLA Vanathi Srinivasan

MLA Vanathi Srinivasan criticizes CM Stalin for delayed maintenance of Contour Canal, affecting PAP irrigation. She urges swift action to benefit thousands of acres and farmers relying on the system.

Coimbatore: MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of inefficient administration, leading to delays in the maintenance work of the Contour Canal, a vital component of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) irrigation scheme serving Coimbatore and Tirupur districts.

In a Facebook post on August 2, the Coimbatore South MLA pointed out that the maintenance work on the Contour Canal, which should have been completed by July, remains unfinished due to what she termed as Stalin's incompetent administration.

As a result, despite the Parambikulam dam filling up due to continuous seasonal rains in Tamil Nadu, there's a delay in the released water reaching Thirumoorthy hills at the scheduled time. This situation, according to Vanathi Srinivasan, significantly impacts the farmers dependent on the PAP irrigation system.

The MLA emphasized that the Chief Minister should have anticipated this issue and taken precautionary measures such as desilting the Contour Canal. She argued that proper maintenance of water resources is crucial, especially when Tamil Nadu routinely requests water from neighboring states to avoid drought conditions.

Vanathi Srinivasan stressed that it is CM Stalin's primary duty to expedite the maintenance work on the Contour Canal to benefit thousands of acres of agricultural land and farmers. She called on the Chief Minister to recognize this responsibility and act promptly.

The BJP MLA's criticism highlights the ongoing challenges in water management and agricultural support in the region, putting pressure on the state government to address these issues more effectively.
