Man flees without paying after filling petrol in Puttuvikki, Coimbatore; CCTV footage under scrutiny

A 25-year-old man in a Swift car fled without paying after filling petrol worth Rs. 3,000 at a Hindustan Petroleum pump in Puttuvikki, Coimbatore. Police are investigating the incident using CCTV footage.


Coimbatore: In a brazen act of theft, a man in his mid-twenties drove away without paying after filling petrol worth Rs. 3,000 at a Hindustan Petroleum pump in Puttuvikki area of Coimbatore. The incident, which occurred on August 1 afternoon, was captured on CCTV cameras, and the police are now on the lookout for the suspect.



According to reports, the young man arrived at the petrol station in a Swift car and asked a female employee to fill petrol for Rs. 3,000. After the tank was filled, the man suddenly started his car and sped away without making the payment, catching the staff off guard.



The shocked employees raised an alarm and attempted to chase the fleeing vehicle. Some staff members even pursued the car on a two-wheeler, but the swift escape of the suspect left them unable to catch up. The incident happened so quickly that the employees couldn't note down the vehicle's registration number.

Following the incident, the petrol pump staff filed a complaint at the Kuniyamuthur Police Station. The police have obtained the CCTV footage from the petrol station and surrounding areas, and are currently analyzing it to identify the culprit and the vehicle used in the crime.

This incident has raised concerns about security measures at petrol stations in the city. The police have advised petrol pump owners to be more vigilant and to consider implementing additional safety measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The case is under investigation, and the police are confident of nabbing the culprit soon with the help of the CCTV footage and other evidence gathered from the scene.
