World Breastfeeding Week Inaugurated at Pollachi Government Hospital

World Breastfeeding Week celebrations commenced at Pollachi District Government Headquarters Hospital on August 1. The event, led by Hospital Superintendent Dr. Raja, emphasized the importance of breastfeeding and this year's theme.

Coimbatore: The Pollachi District Government Headquarters Hospital kicked off the "World Breastfeeding Week" celebrations at its Maternity and Child Health Department building on Tuesday. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Hospital Superintendent Dr. Raja.

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from August 1 to 7. The event saw the participation of various medical professionals including Dr. Selvaraj, head of the Pediatrics Department, obstetricians, pediatricians, nursing supervisors, doctors, postgraduate students, and nursing college students. All participants took a pledge supporting the cause of breastfeeding.

This year's theme for World Breastfeeding Week is "Let's reduce the gap and provide breastfeeding support for all." The week-long program aims to educate new mothers about the importance of breastfeeding, highlighting its benefits for both mother and child. It also seeks to raise awareness about the potential harm of bottle feeding and formula milk.

The hospital has planned various activities throughout the week. These include counseling sessions for mothers who have given birth during this period, explaining the significance of breastfeeding, and detailing the advantages it offers to both mother and child.

As part of the awareness campaign, a one-day rally has been organized involving nursing college students. This rally will reach out to the general public, educating them about the benefits of breastfeeding.

The initiative underscores the hospital's commitment to promoting breastfeeding as a crucial aspect of maternal and child health care. By engaging both medical professionals and the public, the program aims to create a supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers and ensure better health outcomes for infants.
