Residents of Idikarai Stage Road Blockade Demanding Better Infrastructure in Coimbatore

Residents of Mahalakshmi Garden in Idikarai staged a protest and road blockade on July 31, demanding road facilities, water supply, and a bridge. The demonstration ended after authorities promised action within six months.

Coimbatore: Residents of Mahalakshmi Garden in Manikarambalaiyam, Ward 6 of Idikarai Town Panchayat, Coimbatore district, staged a protest and road blockade on Wednesday, July 31. The demonstrators surrounded the Town Panchayat office, demanding better road facilities, resolution of drinking water issues, and construction of a bridge in their area.

The residents claim to have approached the Town Panchayat administration multiple times regarding these issues. However, they allege that Ward Councillor Marimuthu and the Panchayat administration have not taken any action or paid heed to their requests. Frustrated by the lack of response, the residents resorted to blocking the road in front of the Panchayat office.

Upon receiving information about the protest, local police arrived at the scene and engaged in negotiations with the demonstrators. Subsequently, representatives from the Town Panchayat administration assured the protesters that necessary steps would be taken to provide road facilities and construct a bridge in their area within six months. Following this assurance, the protesters dispersed and called off their demonstration.

The incident highlights the growing frustration among residents over basic infrastructure issues and the importance of timely action by local administrative bodies to address citizens' concerns.
