Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police conducted mass inspections and vehicle checks on Tuesday, targeting various illegal activities across the district. The operation aimed to curb drug peddling, illegal sale of liquor, banned tobacco products, harbouring of criminals, and illegal stay by foreigners.

District Superintendent of Police V. Badrinarayanan instructed the drive, which was carried out in multiple sub-divisions including Pollachi, Periyanaickenpalayam, Perur, Karumathampatty, Valparai, and Mettupalayam. The comprehensive operation covered a wide range of locations and establishments.

According to police sources, surprise vehicle checks were conducted at 45 different locations throughout the district. The inspection teams thoroughly examined lodges, dhabas, bars, petty shops, and areas frequented by students. This extensive coverage ensured that no potential hotspots for illegal activities were overlooked.

In a notable technological implementation, the police utilized facial recognition software during the operation. This advanced tool was employed to check whether individuals found in suspicious circumstances had any criminal antecedents, enhancing the effectiveness of the inspections.
