Wild Elephant Destroys Compound Wall Near Thondamuthur in Coimbatore

A wild elephant entered Muthipalayam near Thondamuthur, Coimbatore on July 30 night, causing damage to a house's compound wall. This incident is part of increasing elephant encounters in the area.

Coimbatore: A wild elephant caused significant damage to a residential property in Muthipalayam near Thondamuthur, Coimbatore, on the night of July 30. The incident, which was captured on video by local residents, highlights the growing concerns over human-elephant conflicts in the region.

The elephant, which had entered the village, was seen roaming the streets before it approached a house. In its attempt to enter the property, the tusker broke through the front gate. As it tried to cross over the compound wall, the structure collapsed under its weight, creating a dramatic scene that was recorded by onlookers on their mobile phones.

This incident is the latest in a series of elephant encounters in the Thondamuthur area over the past ten days. The regions of Thadagam, Mangkarai, Thondamuthur, and Marudamalai in Coimbatore district have been experiencing increased elephant movement, leading to various instances of damage and confrontations.

Just two days prior to this incident, a temple priest near Thondamuthur was attacked by a wild elephant, sustaining injuries. In a separate but related incident, a young man lost his life when he was attacked by an elephant while attempting to chase it away from the area.

The Forest Department officials are on high alert and are working to mitigate the human-elephant conflicts in the region. Residents are advised to exercise caution and report any elephant sightings to the authorities immediately.
