Drunk Lorry Driver Arrested for Altercation with Police Near Sungam Bypass in Coimbatore

A 24-year-old lorry driver was arrested for drunk driving and obstructing police duty near Sungam Bypass in Coimbatore on July 29. The incident occurred during a routine vehicle check by Ukkadam police.


Coimbatore: A lorry driver was arrested for drunk driving and getting into an altercation with the police during a vehicle check near Sungam Bypass in Coimbatore. The incident occurred on July 29 when the Ukkadam police were conducting routine vehicle inspections near the Electricity Board office on Sungam Bypass Road.

During the check, the police stopped vehicles and verified documents of the occupants. Among those checked was Mohammed Nasruddin, a 24-year-old resident of G.M. Nagar in Ukkadam. When the police inspected Nasruddin, they found him to be under the influence of alcohol. Consequently, a case was registered against him for driving under the influence.

Nasruddin, who works as a water tanker lorry driver, got into an argument with Special Sub-Inspector Devakumari regarding the case. The altercation escalated, leading to Nasruddin obstructing the police from performing their duties.

Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Devakumari filed a complaint at the Ukkadam Police Station. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against Mohammed Nasruddin under three sections, including obstructing police from performing their duties. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
