Farmers Attempt to Besiege Sub-Registrar Office Near Udumalpet, Police Deployed

Farmers and public protested against the Kaniyur Sub-Registrar near Udumalpet, Tiruppur district, accusing him of corruption and fraudulent property registration. Police were deployed to maintain order.

Coimbatore: Tension gripped the area near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district as farmers and local residents attempted to besiege the Kaniyur Sub-Registrar office on Wednesday morning. The protest was organized against alleged corruption and fraudulent property registration by the Sub-Registrar, Damodaran.

The controversy stems from accusations that Damodaran has been accepting bribes and conducting improper property registrations favoring the ruling party. A recent incident involving the fraudulent registration of properties worth Rs 10 crore belonging to Kalaiselvi and Vijayaraja, wife and son of Natarajan from nearby Thungavi village, further fueled public outrage.

According to reports, Rajamani, wife of Durairaja, allegedly registered these properties fraudulently at the Sub-Registrar office. It is claimed that the Sub-Registrar was complicit in this act and received a bribe of up to Rs 15 lakhs. In response to these allegations, the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association, affected farmers, and members of the public held a protest on July 5th, condemning the Sub-Registrar's actions.

Today's planned siege was announced as a continuation of their demands for government action against the Sub-Registrar. As a precautionary measure, more than 50 police personnel were deployed under the leadership of Udumalpet DSP Sugumaran to maintain law and order.

However, following assurances from district officials that action would be taken against Sub-Registrar Damodaran, the siege turned into a demonstration. Over 50 farmers and members of the public participated, raising slogans against the alleged corrupt practices.

The protest against Kaniyur Sub-Registrar Damodaran near Udumalpet has created a tense atmosphere in the area, highlighting the growing concerns over corruption in property registration processes.
