CPI Stages Protest in Udumalpet Against Electricity Tariff Hike and Privatization

The Communist Party of India organized a demonstration in Udumalpet, Tirupur district, protesting against the electricity tariff hike and the privatization of power distribution. The protest took place on Wednesday.


Tirupur The Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a protest in Udumalpet, Tirupur district, on Wednesday, denouncing the recent electricity tariff hike and opposing the privatization of power distribution. The demonstration took place in front of the Udumalpet bus stand.



The protestors demanded the withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Act, which they claim aims to hand over power distribution to private entities. They also called for the cancellation of the UDAY (Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana) scheme, which they allege infringes upon state rights.



The demonstration was led by CPI Taluk Secretary Soundararajan. Several party leaders participated in the protest, including District Secretary K.M. Isaac, District Administrative Committee member Subramanian, Taluk Deputy Secretary Krishnasamy, and District Committee members Ranadeva and Rajendran, among others.
