DMK Organizes Rekla Race in Moolanur to Mark Kalaignar's Centenary

Erode MP K.E. Prakash inaugurated the first annual Rekla race in Moolanur, Tiruppur district, organized by DMK to commemorate Kalaignar's birth centenary. Over 800 bull carts participated in the event.


Coimbatore: The Moolanur Town Panchayat DMK organized a grand Rekla race to mark the centenary celebrations of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, popularly known as Kalaignar. The event, held near Dharapuram in Tiruppur district, saw enthusiastic participation from bull cart racers across various districts.

Erode MP K.E. Prakash inaugurated the Rekla race at 7 AM, setting the stage for an exciting day of traditional sport. The competition featured two categories - 200 meters and 300 meters races, attracting over 800 bull carts from Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Udumalpet, Erode, Karur, and other neighboring districts.



The 200-meter race kicked off the event, with bulls charging down the track with great vigor. Both the 200-meter and 300-meter races saw fierce competition among the participants. The organizers have announced that trophies and memorial prizes will be awarded to the winners of both categories.

This Rekla race not only served as a tribute to Kalaignar's legacy but also helped preserve and promote this traditional Tamil sport. The event drew large crowds, showcasing the enduring popularity of Rekla races in the region.
