460 kg of Tobacco Products Seized in Sulur: Two Arrested

Coimbatore police seized 460 kg of banned tobacco products worth Rs 3,03,169 in Sulur area. Two individuals from Thoothukudi district were arrested during the operation.


Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown on illegal tobacco trade, the Coimbatore District Police seized 460 kg of banned tobacco products in the Sulur area on July 24, 2024. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the case.

Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan has been actively working towards creating a drug-free Coimbatore by completely eradicating the use of substances that act as toxins to society.

Acting on a tip-off about the storage of tobacco products banned by the Tamil Nadu government for sale, the Sulur police conducted a raid near Pappampatti. The operation led to the arrest of Sivasubramaniam, son of Jayapal, and Murugaraj, son of Thangapandi, both hailing from Thoothukudi district. The accused were found storing the contraband in a rented house for distribution.

The police seized tobacco products valued at Rs 3,03,169 from the suspects. Following the arrest, the accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the Coimbatore police to curb the illegal tobacco trade and create a healthier environment for the residents of the district.
