Tragic Electrocution Claims Life of Electricity Board Employee in Valparai

A 45-year-old Tamil Nadu Electricity Board employee died in a tragic accident while restoring power connections in Valparai. The incident occurred on July 22 at the new bus stand area.


Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) employee lost his life due to electrocution while on duty in Valparai, a hill station in Coimbatore district. The deceased, identified as Karuppasamy alias Kannan (45), was a permanent employee of the Valparai Electricity Board.

Karuppasamy, a resident of Vagamalai Estate near Valparai, was working on restoring power connections at the new bus stand area on July 22. He had gone to disconnect the power supply from a transformer to repair a disconnected power line on an electric pole in the vicinity.

After completing the repair work, Karuppasamy was in the process of restoring the power connection from the transformer to the electric poles. As he was pulling the wire, he unexpectedly came into contact with a live current, resulting in a severe electric shock that threw him off balance.

Bystanders who witnessed the accident immediately rushed to Karuppasamy's aid. They quickly transported him to the Valparai Government Hospital for emergency treatment. However, upon examination, the doctors declared that he had already succumbed to his injuries.

The Valparai Police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident. This tragedy highlights the risks faced by electricity board employees in their line of duty and underscores the importance of stringent safety measures in such high-risk professions.
