Police Officer Attacked During Vehicle Check Near Coimbatore's Thadagam Road

A police constable was assaulted by two men during a routine vehicle check at Kovil Medu intersection on Thadagam Road, Coimbatore. The incident occurred on July 21 night, leading to a case being filed against the attackers.


Coimbatore: A routine vehicle check turned violent on the night of July 21 when two men allegedly attacked a police constable near Thadagam Road in Coimbatore. The incident occurred at the Kovil Medu four-road intersection where the Saibaba Colony police were conducting a vehicle inspection.

Special Sub-Inspector Krishnamoorthy, along with Police Constable Bhoopalan and other officers, were checking vehicles and verifying documents of drivers passing through the area. The situation escalated when they stopped two men on a motorcycle and asked them to produce their documents.

An argument broke out between the police and the motorcycle riders. The altercation quickly turned physical when the two men, angered by the exchange, allegedly used abusive language and pushed Constable Bhoopalan, causing him to fall on the road. The incident caused a commotion in the area.

Following the assault, Special Sub-Inspector Krishnamoorthy filed a complaint at the Saibaba Colony Police Station. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the two attackers, identified as Nagarajan (31) from Govakkapatti, Dindigul, and Ilango (35) from Kalappatti near Karur. Both men are reportedly construction workers.

The Saibaba Colony Police are currently investigating the case. This incident highlights the risks faced by law enforcement officers during routine duties and the importance of maintaining calm during police checks.
