Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association Stages Protest in Udumalpet Demanding Various Reforms

Over 100 farmers gathered near Udumalpet Central Bus Stand in Tiruppur district to protest for multiple demands, including wildlife protection measures and compensation for crop damages.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association staged a protest near the Udumalpet Central Bus Stand in Tiruppur district, putting forward various demands to safeguard farmers' interests and address wildlife-related issues.

The demonstrators urged the government not to create new elephant corridors while bypassing traditional routes. They also demanded the conduct of special gram sabha meetings to discuss local agricultural concerns.

A key focus of the protest was the protection of agricultural crops from wild animals. The farmers called for measures to prevent crop destruction by wild boars, monkeys, deer, and peacocks. They requested permission to use firecrackers to control wild boars, similar to the practice in Kerala.

The association demanded compensation of Rs. 25 lakhs for farmers who lose their lives due to wildlife attacks and full compensation for damaged crops. They also sought appropriate compensation for sheep and calves killed by stray dogs in rural areas and called for local administrations to take necessary steps to control the stray dog menace.

S.R. Madhusudanan, State Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association, led the protest. Other key participants included District Treasurer Baladandapani, District Vice President S. Paramasivam, and Madathukulam Taluk Secretary Veerappan. More than 100 farmers participated in the demonstration, emphasizing the urgency of their demands.
