Elderly Woman's Gold Chain and Cash Stolen on Bus in Coimbatore

A 67-year-old woman lost her purse containing a 5-sovereign gold chain and Rs. 3000 while traveling on a government bus from Ottakkal Mandapam to Sundharapuram in Coimbatore on July 19.


Coimbatore: An elderly woman fell victim to theft while traveling on a government bus in Coimbatore on Wednesday. The incident occurred when 67-year-old Dhanalakshmi was en route to her daughter's house in Sundharapuram.

Dhanalakshmi, wife of Arumugam from Sriram Nagar near Eachanari, boarded a government town bus from Ottakkal Mandapam area on July 19. Upon reaching her daughter's house, she discovered that her purse was missing from her bag. The purse contained a 5-sovereign gold chain and Rs. 3000 in cash.

Realizing that the theft had occurred during her bus journey, Dhanalakshmi promptly filed a complaint at the Sundharapuram Police Station. Sub-Inspector Gnanaprakash has registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the bus route and questioning potential witnesses to identify and apprehend the culprit. Authorities have advised passengers, especially the elderly, to remain vigilant and keep their valuables secure while using public transportation.
